Top of the Shelf: Issue #1

It occurred to me that with my cancellation of my “This Week in Comics Feature” my readers never get the chance to hear me discuss the full extent of what I read. They hear me rave or condone about titles I do reviews on, but those only make up a small portion of what I read. Thus every week I will offer a recap from the previous week, detailing my favorite comics from the week past.

5. Animal Man #15- I don’t read this title, not because I’m a dimbus and don’t recognize how great it is, just that I hate to pick up a title late in the game. I’m now 13 issues behind in it, and as far as I know only 1 of the trade’s is out. That said, Lemire is currently one of my favorite writers and I think the impending holiday’s will allow me to get caught up on Animal Man (and Swamp Thing too). Now on to this issue, while I had little idea of what was going on, I was tipped off to buy this from Travis as it saw Monsieur Mallah and The Brain fighting against our heroes. While this reality isn’t that of the normal DCU, it does help lend to the possibility of a Doom Patrol, especially with Niles’ stint on Ravagers, and let me tell you, a new Doom Patrol ongoing is something I’d kill to see.

4. Hawkeye #5- This comic is still quite pleasing, having very few low moments with 5 issues under it’s belt. While Pullido’s art isn’t as strong as Aja’s, it is significantly better in this issue than it was in #4. What really made this issue shine for me is the ending, which was not only humorous, but pandered to my personal philosophy on super heroes. It is revealed that Hawkeye was telling the truth when he said he never killed anyone. The video   was a fake, one of three forgery’s meant to throw everyone off.

3. Stormwatch #15- I have long discussed my disgust for the direction Stormwatch has taken since Cornell’s departure. This issue astounded me, being the best issue this series has had in a long time. While I had been worried about what will happen in the future (seeing the solicits for a “rogue member” and now “the death of a member”) this issue confirmed that it will not be Midnighter nor Apollo, the two characters I care about. This issue seems like the direct continuation of the series, and important in the direction of the characters as a whole. This issue could easily fall as issue #7 (the real #7-#14 are forgettable). Some great moments that have restored my faith in the direction of the title, and have made me happy with the current creative team.

2. Earth 2 #7- Though Nicola Scott is away for this issue, it doesn’t slow down in the least. This issue serves as filler, jumping on point, and eye candy. Being between arcs allows for  current readers to miss it, and provides a fresh start for new readers. This issue however gets not one, but three pieces on the board, playing towards a prospective JSA team/title. We get to see Mister Terrific for the first time since #2 (mind controlled by Sloan), we get to see more of this universes’ Sandman and where he falls with the political issues, and finally get to see Red Tornado (now modeled after a female). More to the point, the issue suggests that Khan will have something to do with the creation of this worlds JSA.

1. Detective Comics #15- Long since lapsed from this title, this issue proved that I can’t keep missing it. The new team has been aboard for three issues now, and I need to get all of them. This issue is equal parts fun and thrilling, and displays a much more intellectual Batman. However what really highlights this issue is the major status quo shift within the gangs of Gotham. Some of the best stories have come out of Gotham gang warfare, and this could easily be an early tease at a much major event. Maybe the next Batman event will be lead by Layman? Something I wouldn’t mind seeing in the least.

What was top of the shelf for you this week?

Until the next time, you can call me Emperor Penguin

The Highlights of DC’s December Solicits

As I started doing with DC’s October solicits, I have begun discussing the ten comics from the solicits that I’m looking forward to most and why. While some of the titles may be on my pull list, many are not and I want to share with you why I will be picking up many of these titles in addition to my pull list.

DC has provided an action packed list that saw the death of a series, the aftermath of the Liefelded titles, creative changes, and more!

10. G.I. Combat #7- The elephant in the room of this list. While I didn’t see this cancellation coming, the ending of a series is always something to watch for, and I always tend to pick up the last issues. It’s my belief that every title should go out with a bang, thus I try to spur extra sales on the title.

9. Teen Titans/Red Hood and the Outlaws #15- While my Tumblr despises Scott Lobdell and everything that he stands for, I think even they will enjoy these books. Joker’s attack in “Death of the Family” is so massive that it requires the Teen Titans, the Outlaws, and Batgirl to team up to try to stop the madness. As evidenced by the solicits. It doesn’t work. I am specifically excited to see not only Jason’s interaction with the character, but how the non-Bat family members react to being attacked by the Joker. In addition to this, it offers the chance for the insights in Red Hood #1 (which now seem to be contradicted) to be defined and clarified. Red Arrow or Starfire on TT anybody?

8. Catwoman/All-Star Western #15- The Black Diamond has now expanded past the Dark line up (as seen in the November solicits). While more than just these series’ are involved, these two offer particularly interesting stories. First we see the Black Diamond through history again, and we see how it has shaped the past. In addition to seeing how it affects our current heroes, we see it show up not only in the Dark or Edge universes, but in the Batman line of comics. Could Batman be next?

7. Demon Knights #15- Though this title is set in the past, this issue promises to connect it with the DCU on a much grander scale. As Lucifer begins playing a more active role in the DCU, Stormwatch looks set to tie in to the series closer, and the Black Diamond continues to surface throughout DC’s line. Demon Knights #15 could offer insights into a crisis capable of spanning the Dark and the Edge lines. Now that would be something to see.

6. Team 7 #3- While the heart of the story is once again the Black Diamond, the issue promises to begin telling the story of how Slade went from being a loyal government agent (with both eye’s) to the badass villain for hire he is today. Not only is that appealing to fans of Deathstroke or Team 7, but it should be appealing to anyone who values continuity as the seeds of today’s DC are sown in the past.

5. Deathstroke #15- speaking of Deathstroke, Justin Jordan (also writing the above Team 7) will be Liefeld’s replacement. Out of all three Liefelded titles, Deathstroke appears to be the title that could make the biggest rebound, and anyone should be excited to see a title in the shitter climb back to prominence. As I firmly expect Deathstroke to move away from the chopping block with Jordan at it’s helm.

4. Superman #15- Love him or hate him, all three of Lobdell’s title have hit my list. H’el on Earth will continue in December, but what really makes this issue attractive is that Lex Luthor will have his first appearance in modern DC. While he showed up in Action Comics, that arc was set in the past. We will now get to see how different New 52 Lex really is from is old DCU counterpart. I’m hoping for the best.

3. Justice League Dark #15- Not only is Jeff Lemire launching his second arc of the title, the team will change-up some and then get plunged into a Tron like world. Tron + DC + Jeff Lemire= unparalleled awesomeness.

2. Justice League- The first issue with the new/old creative team of Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, and Joe Prado, and while all three are leaving Aquaman the creative team still gets his hands on the character. Their first arc is even Aquaman centered (and godfathered by Johns). DC is playing it safe with this one. While Johns might be leaving Aquaman, they are making sure that Aquaman will continue to get the boost he deserves. Plus we can see the seeds of Trinity War looming as both Justice League titles start a new arc at the same time, perhaps to get synchronized for what’s coming next hm?

1. Batman #15- While I neglected to place Batman on October’s solicits, my excitement for the Death of the Family arc is only growing. I can’t wait to get my hands on it, and see how it unfolds. This event is proving to be massive and the hints and rumors suggest that an important character will soon die. I can hardly bear the excitement. Additionally, the Riddler, my favorite Bat-villain, is set to make an appearance in this issue. I pray that he’s done well, and has nothing to do with the teased character from issue #1. If it does, I very well might drop the series as a whole.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours? Looking forward to the new teams? Black Diamond? Joker? Riddler? Sound off in the comments, I’d love to get some feedback.

Until the next time, beware the Black Diamond on a full moon’s night.

I was….. Wrong?

Hello all. I come bearing sad tidings. I was wrong. I was blinded by my own hubris, and the single title cancelled in DC’s line up was not on my Chopping Block.

I will take full credit for my mistake. I didn’t expect DC to slash a title that launched just recently. I had expected them to try to change-up the anthology title, but DC made the smart move (though I didn’t see it coming) in cutting it. At the end of the day, though there were many possibilities none of them could change the fact that G.I. Combat was just a soldier comic, and, soldier comics don’t sell well. Bottom line. Factoring in #0, the title has 8 issues (the same as those it came in to replace). I’m sad to see the loss of Unknown Soldier, but it will be leaving for a much greater title. The Justice League of America. Once again, I apologize for my miscalculation.

In other news, the podcast has been recorded and is currently being edited. You should be able to enjoy the second issue of Ravingnerd Presents! by this time tomorrow. So stay tuned to the nerd for that, and much more!

DC’s Chopping Block: The Next to Die

By now I’m sure you’ve all been informed of the new Justice League team, if not I advise you to educate yourself and check back here.

Now that you are back, we can begin discussing what’s on the chopping block. Since we know January/May is the new time frame for the above title (and the rest of DC’s 4th wave, whatever that may be). Since we know DC is keeping the line at 52 titles, there will be at least one title cancelled. However, DC has wider reaching plans and a 4th wave will not have just a single title. Thus we know that there will be multiple cancellations (at least two, but hopefully more than that). My goal today is to discuss what is most likely to get cut. I plan to do that in the most systematic way possible.

First off, let’s look at what we know is staying. My plan is to narrow down on the 6 titles that will most likely be cut. So let’s begin, shall we?

The Batman line, it’s safe (well for the most part). It’s the highest selling title and almost all of the titles in the Bat-line sell within the top 50. However, I shall go ahead and list out the titles that are safe. Batman, Batman and Robin, Batman: The Dark Knight, Detective Comics, Batwoman, Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and the Outlaws. Now go ahead and count, that’s 8 titles. Now that isn’t the entire Batman line. However, those titles will not be cancelled (perhaps ever). Catwoman, and Birds of Prey however are not as safe. Though, for the sake of this cancellation I’d expect both to survive, however they might not be so lucky come the next round. But more on that another time. That brings the count up to 10 safe titles. Batwing however, Batwing is the title that could get cut the soonest. With Winick leaving Batwing at some point in the future (but after November) it’s very likely that this title could be cut in the January time frame I have already established. For this sake, I’m not going to count Batwing among the “safe titles”.

Next, the Superman family is safe. It’s small, but DC needs to keep the line iconic, and Superman anchored DC up until Batman’s popularity explosion in the 80’s. That’s 4 more safe, and a total of 14 titles safe.

The same goes for the GL line. All four of those titles are safe. That brings our count to 18. However, Red Lanterns is only a place holder. It’s conceivable that this title will also bite it once a better GL title comes out.

Next to the Justice League title. JL, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and DCU are all safe. That brings our count up by 5. That’s a total of 23 titles safe. However, that leaves Firestorm, Hawkman, and Green Arrow on a potential chopping block.

Onto the dark part of the line up. Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Justice League Dark, and Frankenstein are safe. That brings our title up to 27. Leaving out I, Vampire and Demon Knights.

The Edge line up is the absolute weakest of the bunch, All-Star Western, Suicide Squad, and even Stormwatch are safe. I say Stormwatch only because it anchors the entire line up currently. That leaves Deathstroke and Grifter, which I’ve already hinted at. This leaves our count at 30.

Teen Titans and Legion of Super-Heroes are safe. That brings our count to 32 and excludes Legion Lost and Blue Beetle.

Now you may say I’ve left off nearly a dozen titles. However the brilliance is they are the safest titles. Batman Inc, Worlds Finest, Earth 2, G.I. Combat, Dial H, Ravagers, Talon, Phantom Stranger, Team 7, and Sword of Sorcery are all safe. They are the second and third wave titles. Neither would be cancelled so early into their run. Though a few have a potential for short runs. That brings our count up to 42 titles.

Now then, let’s narrow down the ten titles I have deemed unsafe. The titles that were passed up. We have Batwing, Firestorm, Hawkman, Green Arrow, I, Vampire, Demon Knights, Deathstroke, Grifter, Legion Lost, and Blue Beetle. These ten titles are all on the chopping block. Now we have to narrow them down to what’s most likely, and why. I, Vampire and Demon Knights help the numbers of the Dark line, these titles need to stay and their critical acclaim boosts their adaptability above other lower selling titles. Green Arrow and Blue Beetle also fit into this category. Green Arrow is too iconic to kill, and DC is hoping for more popularity with his appearance in the new JL title. Blue Beetle needs to stay to keep the numbers on the Young Justice title. It comes down to his title or Legion Lost, and it outsells LL.

That did it. The six titles on the chopping block are Batwing, Grifter, Deathstroke, Hawkman, Legion Lost, and Firestorm. The three Liefeld titles have been ravaged, perhaps beyond repair.  With Grifter appearing in a Third and Fourth Wave title, thus making is solo title obsolete. This title WILL be cancelled. I am almost positive of it. Next we’ll see the death of Hawkman or Firestorm. I can’t quite decipher which title is among the top two. It would seem like a slap in the face to cancel two Liefeld titles, but he kinda deserves it after his Twitter fueled power trip. Firestorm has been struggling along as well. It’s out-of-place, and has no official connectivity with much of anything in the DCU. I expect it’s among the highest on DC’s chopping block. So one last time, DC’s cancellations are among:

1. Grifter
2/3. Savage Hawkman/Fury of Firestorm
4. Deathstroke
5. Batwing
6. Legion Lost

These are the six titles I feel are most likely to be chopped next. Though it is possible the other four titles I narrowed down could be cut as well. Anyway, I’ve gone on long enough about all this. I hope you enjoyed, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Until the next time, I’m awesome.

DC’s 4th Wave: What Will We See?

SDCC is about to wrap up, and there has been a lot of buzz about the New 52. Within the various live panels of SDCC, I believe at least two 4th wave titles have been revealed. In this post I will discuss what you may have missed, as I believe I know what the next 4 titles within the DCU to be. So let’s break them down. I’ll start by what is most likely.

1. WildC.A.T.S: Jim Lee is leaving Justice League, this means that Jim Lee will have no projects going at DC. The rumors before SDCC were that Jim would start-up his Wildstorm property during DC’s next wave. During multiple panels at DC creators like Rob Liefeld and Geoff Johns have made reference to WildC.A.T.S, this almost assuredly means that we will see this title coming next. My guess would be that Liefeld on writing and Lee on art. I can’t say I’m excited for the series, but once official solicits come in, I could change my mind.

2. Multiversity- No, this title is not about college. This title will be about expanding the mythos of the Multiverse. According to the information at SDCC, Grant Morrison has been tapped to write this world spanning comic series. The title and writer have been mentioned almost explicitly, but who will draw it and when it will launch has not. You can always look to me to inform you of what’s to come. I’m good at that sort of thing.

3. The Outsiders: While I have previously mentioned that I personally thought that this would be a strong addition to the line, quite a few hints have been dropped to this title. With the announcement that Stephanie Brown has been pulled from Smallville (still very pissed about that) and that just as many questions about Cass were asked as Stephanie, there is a strong chance that one of them will appear with the Outsiders. Snyder and Geoff Johns both mentioned they were just waiting to find the right time for them. Pulling Steph from Smallville could very well be related to her impending appearance on a new title. In addition to these thoughts, Black Lightning has been added to the New 52 and with the popularity of owls, a new Outsiders team is very likely in my opinion. Plus hints as to the new Talon series would indicate he’d find some friends in the New 52, friends who could join into a team. You see where I’m going with this. Plus it’s a Bat-Title, and they sell like crazy.

4. The Question: The Question has already been seen in the New 52, and according to Dan Didio, will be much more important. With a solo title for Phantom Stranger (one of the Trinity of Sin) and how familiar we all are with Pandora by now, the Question is the only member of the Trinity that we have not seen. After Trinity War it would seem likely that the Question would go on and have his own series. I think this is very likely.

Well this is what I got out of SDCC, what about you?

Until the next time, live long and prosper.

DC’s Third Wave: More Thoughts

Hello all, since my post “What to Expect from DC’s Third Wave” ( https://ravingnerd.wordpress.com/2012/05/31/what-to-expect-from-dcs-third-wave/) has gotten quite a bit of internet buzz (At least three hits a day since I posted it), I have decided to follow up on that post, and discuss again my thoughts and predictions for the Third Wave.

For those of you reading this, while yes I am just a fan, I am using logical reasoning and my experience at detecting and recognizing plot elements helps me to accurately assume what we will see next. And in many instances, it’s not hard to see what’s going to happen.

My previous post discussed my plea for an Authority book (or something of the sort). This idea is more tangible now. With Marvel’s Northstar getting married to his boyfriend this month, and with Alan Scott being reintroduced as gay, it would make sense for DC to try to give Apollo and Midnighter some more press. Both are key characters within the former Wildstorm Universe, but all Wildstorm characters have had problems blending into the DCU as a whole. A relaunched Wildstorm title containing publicity for Apollo and Midnighters’ sexual orientation wouldn’t seem all that far fetched. And with the Daemonites becoming a more integrated part of the DCU (Seen in at least Stormwatch, Grifter, Voodoo, Superman, and I am certain others) an Authority plot featuring say Grifter and others, wouldn’t be so far fethced. However, as I have also previously stated, it would need some DC characters to be feasible. We can’t have a team with no connection to the DCU. So sort of a repeat, but more plausible now. Plus, Jim Lee is only working on one on going title. Perhaps this could hint, or lead to his involvement with his original universe once again. This would also increase readership exponentially.

Black Lightning is one of DC’s most prominent African American heroes, and has not yet been introduced into the New 52. With DC’s diversity virtually eliminated, I think that Black Lighting would be an obvious choice for DC to re incorporate. While he would not make a great solo hero (and DC shouldn’t try) he would be a welcome addition to any team, including the above mentioned Authority/random Wildstorm themed title. He would also tie in nicely to The Outsiders (which I mentioned in my previous post).

On the diversity line, I will go out on a limb and say Steel is another possibility. While Steel has always been a C (perhaps B) rank hero, he is one that is noticeable to fans. Adding Steel to a team (once again, should NEVER have his own title) wouldn’t be such a bad move by DC. His importance in the DCU only kept increasing after Infinite Crisis.

While I despise the Flash, and I mean absolutely despise the new Flash title, a Flash spin off could be quite profitable. An on going Rogues title would bring in new fans, and cause me to have a fifth look at this title I despise. In addition to that, it would be fresh, new and innovative, and allow some new creators the chance to pilot some iconic fan favorites. It would be interesting to see. This is doubtful, but it is plausible because of it’s fan base, and the success of the New 52 Flash franchise.

Who wasn’t a little disappointed when one of the New 52 titles ended up being Red Lanterns? I certainly was. I understand DC’s decision to include another Lantern title, because the Lantern universe is HUGE right now. As my argument with Flash, the Lantern universe is successful enough to draw new readers in with a new series. I’m talking something awesome. Red Lanterns was a disappointment, what if they cancelled that for a Sinestro Corps title? Dare I say, Larfleeze title? (I think it’d probably be better as a one shot though). Anyway, my point being, what if a new Lantern title was added? What if this “mysterious new lantern” teased in Superman annual and in Trinity War got his own title? An on going serious about deep cover lanterns would be pretty exciting.

Some of these titles are pretty unlikely, but DC has thrown curve balls before, and I think the Third Wave will be no exception, I am certain many of these items are on DC’s “to do list”, but who knows what DC’s grand plans are?

Until the next time, I’m Ravingnerd and I’m awesome.

Review the 52.2- Worlds’ Finest #1

Well, as many of you may know I dropped the ball on this one, it’s been out for almost a month and I haven’t touched it until now. I honestly wasn’t excited about this series. I think it fell 5th out of the 6 Second Wave titles on my list. The first and second items on the list (Earth 2 and Batman Inc.) were absolutely brilliant, which elevated my interests in this particular issue. Despite this, my feministic hatred (I tend to be a bit of a feminist when it comes to female comic book characters) of Power Girl kept me at bay. It wasn’t until my poll “Best of the New 52” revealed that it was much loved by all. In fact, as unlikely as it was, it claimed enough votes to be comfortably seated at 3rd. After just one issue. So I bought it, and here is what I liked:

1. Helena Wayne rocks. I love the idea of Batman and Catwoman having a kick as grown up daughter.
2. The references to Michael Holt. Despite the fact no one read his series, I love his character.
3. Karen Starr (Power Girl) has a purpose in this universe. She actively owns and operates STAR Labs. No small task.
4. Power Girl’s new  costume. NO MORE BOOB FLAP!!!!!
5. It’s set in Japan. And I have a huge bias towards Japanese things. If it has something Japanese (even the country) I will automatically believe that it rocks.

Rating before reading: 3

Rating after reading: 7

Wow. This comic was solid. All of my fears were invalid, and all of my hopes were answered. This comic felt good. The art was beautiful and vibrant, the plot line flowed perfectly, easily blending flash backs with reality, and the characters were fresh and exciting. This comic felt like a buddy cop film. Power Girl as the impulsive power house with a tendency for violence and Huntress as the cool cop. It just fits. If this continues in the second issue, I will have to seriously consider adding it to my pull list. I wanted to hate it, but I can’t help but say good things about it. My one complain would be that they erased Helena Bertenelli completely from existence in favor of Earth 2’s Huntress, meaning that the primary earth has no Huntress. This fact is depressing as Helena was a solid character.

Until the next time, live long and prosper.

What to Expect from DC’s Third Wave

I know that I’ve been on a New 52 kick as of late, but honestly, it’s all I think about. Well that and everything else nerdy. Most readers were surprised by some of the titles launched in the New 52, and again questions abounded in the Second Wave. I have compiled my thoughts and taken some of what my followers would like to see and discuss the probability and logistics behind them. So here you have it!

Captain Marvel/Shazam. I know that DC is now naming him Shazam, but I will always refer to him as Captain Marvel. He was the first, the best, and the most iconic character to bear that name. While only a back up feature in Justice League currently, Geoff Johns has said he will tie into the DCU and Justice League as a whole more in the future. This is complimented by the appearance of Black Adam in the teaser for Trinity War (which I am excited about). Despite the need to make him more prevalent in the DCU I doubt that he will star in his own solo series, and if he will, it will not be in the Third Wave. Cap has always had a hard time connecting with modern audiences, so while he had the longest running series from the 40’s-50’s, he has never made a huge come back in the modern market. I wouldn’t however doubt his appearance in DC Universe Presents. That would allow the best “next step” for the character, testing the market that would hopefully lead to his own solo series come the Fourth Wave, which is sure to happen (at least it should happen).

Cyborg. I have discussed numerous times how much I’d like to see a Cyborg series, and when talking to my followers, they all seem to agree that a Cyborg series should happen. The fact that DC needs to solidify his importance in the DCnU more, and the fact that all of DC’s diversity heroes were eliminated in the first cut, so while half man half machine, Vic Stone is an African-American. Not only that, he is high-profile, allowing DC to add back some much-needed diversity and give the only member of the big 7 without a solo series, a solo series.

Milestone Characters. Speaking of diversity, where’s Icon? Seriously the only Milestone characters we have seen were in the Static Shock title, and we know how well that went. Perhaps if you added an Icon series within the Edge or Dark Universe and tie it in with a struggling series like Stormwatch to refresh the quality of the older series, but confirm importance and continuity of the new series. It’s just a thought that a few of my followers have, one that I could easily get behind.

Wildstorm. Speaking of struggling titles: Stormwatch, Grifter, and Voodoo are the only Wildstorm titles still in the fold, and none of them have really done all that well. While Stormwatch is the most high-profile of the three, it is far from well done. The best answer I can imagine for this problem, would be to launch a new Wildstorm title, like The Authority, fold the contents of Stormwatch into it, and link it to the DCU. The problem with at least Stormwatch and Grifter is a real lack of link. There has yet to be a justification for why Stormwatch should exist when there is the Justice League, provide me a legitimate answer, get a solid writer that can stay with it for more than 6 issues, and let it do well. While this might be less about adding more Wildstorm content, I want them to make the existing Wildstorm content better. This could be done by changing the name, and tweaking it some, I think.

The Outsiders. Let’s face it, the Bat-Titles are some of the best selling franchises on the market. They almost always score within the top 50 every month, most within the top 25. Adding the Outsiders seems like the next logical step, in my mind. It would give characters like Metemorpho (or Element Woman, whichever), Black Lightning, and many other heroes a home within the New 52. You could have characters like Katana join the team, and set up an efficient force. One that not only Bat-Fans, but normal readers would probably come to enjoy.

Justice Society. While Earth 2 is busy introducing them, it will not be an on going series about the team. DC could further expand the multiverse by adding a JSA title, as either a spin-off or replacement for the Earth 2 title. The most ideal option would be to have an ongoing Earth 2 title not focusing on the team with a second one focusing on the JSA team. A special shout out to @Kapellusch for this great insight.

More Multiverse content. Why stop at Earth 2? DC could easily re-boot fan favorite characters like Ted Kord and Wally West, in another universe. While Earth 4 isn’t an appealing title, fans would read a title with Wally West or Ted Kord in it. In addition to this, The Crime Syndicate is an integral part to DC comics. All of the Earth 3 content could easily be rebooted, and an Earth 3 title does sound appealing, because any DC fan knows what that means. A reality in which our greatest heroes are all villains, fighting off our greatest villains (who are heroes), each other, and the governments of the world. It would make for some dark, edgy, but brilliant material.

The Losers. DC seems to want to have military/soldier combat in the line up, with Men of War and Blackhawks being replaced by G.I. Combat. The Losers is a fan favorite, that has generated positive media buzz, and one that could buffer DC’s soldier/military line up stronger than any other title.

Well, those are just some of my thoughts, if you have your own, I’d love to hear them. Disagree with my list? Let me know! Have your own thoughts/insights as to the Third Wave of DC, post it here! I’d be happy to discuss it.

Until the next time, live long and prosper.

DC’s Third Wave: More Thoughts
