Both of the second issues have astounded me in their quality, proving that Before Watchmen will produce some phenomenal story lines. Comedian #1 was one of the weakest Watchmen titles so far, and many of my contacts have given up on the series. Before I do anything else, I should discuss what I did like.
1. Comedian maintains his friendship with Bobby Kennedy, part of the reason that made issue #1 so great.
2. We see Comedian actually being funny.
3. We actually see the Comedian be who he is, a soldier, and that plays off very well.
Rating before reading: 6
Rating after reading: 6
While the quality of the comic has not diminished, it hasn’t gotten a whole lot better either. It is still a good solid read, but feels out-of-place given the quality of the other titles. This being said, while still only ranked a 6, this comic was definitely stronger than the last issue. Given more time (and it still has more than 4 issues) I could see this comic getting quite a bit stronger as time goes on. So while only time will tell if the series becomes great, it is still a good read.
Until the next time, live long and prosper.
