Today Marvel announced that it was changing it’s line. While it’s not a reboot, Marvel is making a change to their line. While it has not been stated if any of Marvel’s titles will get cancelled, there will be three new additions to the line.
Uncanny Avengers seems to be the big one. It is a mix up of Avengers and X-Men and will most likely be the POV team after AvX. I assume it will be their headlining series. With another Avengers series (without Bendis) launching, we can’t be sure just how many Avengers titles will be left.
As mentioned, a new Avenger title, featuring multiple Avengers will launch without Bendis’ pen. This is particularly interesting, considering that he has helmed the Avengers for quite a while.
No news on the future of Dark Avengers (formerly Thunderbolts, Secret Avengers, Avengers Academy, New Avengers, or Avengers Assemble. The stated that titles will “relaunch” does that mean that many will copy Uncanny X-Men’s idea of renumbering? It certainly won’t be a New 52 style reboot. Will these titles get cancelled? Will they start over? Will their rosters change? Who knows.
All New X-Men is the final title revealed today. As I suspected, it’s time travel. The original 5 X-Men will arrive in the current Marvel Universe and shake things up. This series will be written by Bendis, so that should be interesting to read. The future of the other X-Men titles have yet to be revealed, but I imagine we will revieve word later this week.
Finally, the costumes for most main characters in Marvel are changing. Thor, Iron Man, Wolverine, Cyclops and more are all getting significant changes. This evidences that Marvel might be significantly changing their line. While not rebooting, they clearly are changing something about their universe.
I will continue to discuss more about Marvel’s projects as information becomes available, and then we can piece this “reboot” together.
Until the next time, live long and prosper.
