Fallout: Results of a Crisis

While taking a break from my responsibilities yesterday, I began to wonder (as I have done for days now) what was coming in DC’s 4th Wave. After much pondering, I believe that I have determined two likely scenarios for what other new titles could be coming in February.

First off, let me frame my conjecture. Dan Didio reported in NYCC that two major status quo changes would happen because of Death of the Family. One right away, and one towards the end. Scott Lobdell has also been given the ability to spin a yarn involving the team up of the Outlaws and the Teen Titans. This is significant since both Roy and Starfire were major players on TT in the old universe. Next, Scott Lobdell has also teased that he has been toying with another TT team. That it was probable. Finally, the YJ line drops down to just three titles after January.

What I suggest will happen is two-fold. I believe it possible that Tim leave the Teen Titans. In January Roy will lead the team while Tim and Jason fight the Joker. While this doesn’t mean anything on the surface, it has many covert meanings. It proves that someone else can do Tim’s Job. The entire Death of the Family arc proves that he is a liability to the team. Given the massive amount of tinkering done to Tim’s backstory, I think it’s possible that he will be given his own solo title. While not confirmed, a Red Robin solo series in the YJ line would make sense. Tim quitting TT would be a major change in the DCU status quo, and it would give a writer (maybe even Lobdell) a chance to detail exactly why Tim was changed. I don’t think he was changed for a reason. I think DC has big plans with him, and I think the Fourth Wave could be the start to those plans.

Second, and less likely. That Lobdell’s proposed secondary team spin’s off from Tim’s departure. All it needs is a few new characters to be added (both Static and Blue Beetle are free now) and a grasp for power to split the teams into two. In addition to the two mentioned above, Raven, Cyborg, and Jericho could all be potential recruits for a new series. All of which were Titans in the old DCU.

This is less likely, but would replace the YJ numbers back to 5. DC was committed to writing 5 before January, no reason to stop if they have the stories. In addition to this, even with Red Robin classified as a YJ title, Bat-fans from across the board would jump on it (I know I would). Finally a second Teen Titans team would bump up the Teen teams to a Trinity. The original Titans, Ravagers, and this proposed “New Teen Titans” could then even tie into the looming Trinity War event. None of these ideas are too shabby in my opinion. If done well, it could increase my interest in the YJ line. A line I long since abandoned.

While this is all conjecture, it is an interpretation of what major players at DC have said for a little while now. And aside from G.I. Combat and Frankenstein, I haven’t missed a beat yet. What are your thoughts? Am I just being wild and crazy, or could there be truth to my words? Would you like to see a Red Robin solo? A new team of Titans?

Until the next time, I called it October 18th.
